Its been 2 years exact since your passing on this very day. If you are reading this, know that I am and always will be thinking of you. Honorably served his country in the Korean War and the Vietnam War.

Your Loving Niece.

I salute your uncle and his fellow servicemen for their sacrifices while serving their countries.

Thank you. It would suck if we have to be sent to the same country, same war that they fought in.

@Wooki87 Yeah but I have a feeling that it’s just going to be a similar situation in a different country.

What we saw happen in Afghanistan, we don't want our children to be sent over there either.

@Wooki87 That place is a real nightmare even for its own people.

The Korean War ended in a frozen conflict. Just imagine watching their grandchildren fighting in the Korean War, the same war their grandfathers fought in.

@MchectorII I appreciate your kind gesture. Though normally civilians don't salute members of the armed forces. Military salute is considered a privilege earned by those who have served in the Armed Forces and is reserved for official protocols.

@Wooki87 I’m an ex-serviceman myself, sorry for not putting that in earlier.I wish I could better show my admiration and appreciation for military personnel like your relatives who have sacrificed so much.

Oh I understand now. I'm sorry about what I said earlier then. In that case you earned the right to salute since you have served your country. What branch did you serve in?

@Wooki87 It’s okay,I understand.I was an assistant storeman to a logistical unit involved in the maintenance of armoured vehicles. My position involved some clerical work as well.

I see. Army or Marines?

@Wooki87 The army.In my country,we don’t have a Marine Corps.

Oh well at first I assumed that you were from the US. I guess that explains it now.

@Wooki87 Yeah and it must be a whole different experience to serve in your country.

We're not proud of it really. At the end of the day our American troops pulled out of Afghanistan. The same thing happened when we were in Vietnam over 40 years ago. History is simply repeating itself.

@Wooki87 To be fair, your country did all it could to help Afghanistan but it’s just an indomitable country even for her own people. As for Vietnam,America and her allies came quite close to achieving some kind of results but it was pretty much over the moment the public knew about the Tet offensive.
At the end,the boys at the frontlines did their best to serve and survive under those conditions and that fact alone (while unfortunate),deserve an utmost respect.
You’re right about history repeating itself.Although conflict has always been part of human history,it’s sad to see that we still turn to it more often than other ways of making peace.

With the current situation in Ukraine, Putin's invasion is just as relatable to Hitler trying to invade Russia during WW2. Smaller countries are much stronger than you would think. Even more difficult to invade since Ukraine is bordered by Poland where they're getting supplied with fighter jets, arms and ammunition as well as foreign volunteer fighters.
